Michael Schumacher born 3 January 1969) is a German Formula 1™ racing driver. Up to the end of season 2012 he is driving for the Mercedes team. Michael Schumacher is a seven-time World Champion and is widely regarded as one of the greatest Formula 1™ drivers of all time. He holds many of the formula's driver records, including most championships, race victories, fastest laps, pole positions, points scored and most races won in a single season – 13 in 2004. In 2002 he became the only driver in Formula 1™ history to finish in the top three in every race of a season and then also broke the record for most consecutive podium finishes. According to the official Formula 1™ website he is "statistically the greatest driver the sport has ever seen".In 2009, a poll of 217 Formula 1™ drivers conducted by the British magazine Autosport named Michael Schumacher the second-greatest F1 driver of all time, behind Ayrton Senna.
After beginning with karting, Michael Schumacher won German drivers' championships in Formula König and Formula Three before joining Mercedes in the World Sportscar Championship. After one Mercedes-funded race for the Jordan Formula 1™ team Michael Schumacher signed as a driver for the Benetton Formula 1™ team in 1991. After winning consecutive championships with Benetton in 1994/5, Michael Schumacher Moved to Ferrari in 1996 and won another five consecutive drivers' titles with them from 2000 to 2004. Michael Schumacher retired from Formula 1™ driving in 2006 staying with Ferrari as an advisor. Michael Schumacher agreed to return for Ferrari part-way through 2009, as cover for the badly injured Felipe Massa, but was prevented by a neck injury. He later signed a three-year contract to drive for the new Mercedes GP team starting in 2010. Michael Schumacher career has not been without controversy, including being twice involved in collisions in the final race of a season that determined the outcome of the world championship, with Damon Hill in 1994 in Adelaide, and with Jacques Villeneuve in 1997 in Jerez. Off the track Michael Schumacher is an ambassador for UNESCO and a spokesman for driver safety. He has been involved in numerous humanitarian efforts throughout his life and donated tens of millions of dollars to charity. Michael and his younger brother Ralf Schumacher are the only brothers to win races in Formula 1™, and they were the first brothers to finish 1st and 2nd in the same race, in Montreal in 2001. The two brothers repeated this achievement in four more races (the 2001 French Grand Prix, the 2002 Brazilian Grand Prix, the 2003 Canadian Grand Prix and the 2004 Japanese Grand Prix).

Michael Schumacher Bids Farewell To Formula 1™
The curtain will fall on Michael Schumacher's career in Brazil on Sunday and he believes Interlagos is the perfect place for him to say farewell.

“Interlagos is the right place to round off my career because so much of the fascination of Formula 1™ is rooted there,” Michael Schumacher said.

“I always enjoy the enthusiasm of the fans, and it’s simply a great circuit which has seen many memorable events and always produces spectacular races as the unique layout guarantees plenty of action. For me, it’s also the circuit that brings back my memories of Ayrton.

“My departure from Formula 1™ will probably be less emotional for me this time than in 2006, when we were still fighting for the championship and everything was much more intense. This time round, I will be able to pay more attention to my farewell and hopefully savour it too.”

While he is unlikely to end his career with a race victory, Michael Schumacher wants to go out on a high and will be looking to secure a strong result at Interlagos.

“I have had fantastic years in Formula 1™ and a lot of support from fans around the world, and I wish to particularly thank them for that,” he added.

“Of course, I would be happiest if I could say goodbye with a strong race, and I am sure we will be doing everything we can to make it happen.”

Brawn was the mastermind behind Michael Schumacher s world championship successes and, while he has not delivered the result that were expected at Mercedes, the team principal is expecting an emotional weekend in Sao Paulo.

“With the last race of the season in Brazil also bringing Michael Schumacher's second and final retirement from Formula One, it will be an emotional weekend for everyone in the team,” Mercedes
